The Selfishness Spectrum

If one proceeds with an act that accrues no personal benefit but does great harm to another, that’s psychopathic.

If one is willing to cause major inconvenience to others for a minor benefit for oneself, that’s highly selfish.

If one does not act when there is no personal gain but another can benefit, that’s selfish.

If one is willing to live with minor inconvenience for another’s benefit, that’s selfless.

If one is willing to live with major inconvenience for another’s benefit, that’s enlightenment. Some may call it devotion.

We all exhibit behaviors across this selfishness spectrum at times. Being aware where you are on the spectrum is the first step towards making a change.
